FAQs

1) What is a Personal Health Record (PHR)?
A PHR is a health record that belongs to you. While the information in your medical records belongs to you, the actual record, electronic or otherwise, belongs to your doctors. Because you get medical care from many different places over time it is unrealistic to expect your doctors to manage all of your health information. Even if you belong to an HMO, there may be times when you end up seeing doctors who do not work for the HMO. In some cases the medical information they generate will not make it into your medical record.

2) How is the LAXOR® PHR different from other PHRs?
The LAXOR PHR was created by 3 physicians with almost 100 years of clinical and management experience between them. Because of their experience our product is easy to use. And our online help makes sense. Even so, if you get stuck all you have do is contact support and we'll get right back to you to answer your questions or address any other concerns you may have.

3) How does information get into the my Personal Health Record?
Getting information into your PHR is quite flexible. If you already have the information you can place it (including text and images) into your health record by scanning them and then using the easy-to-use tool that is built in to your LAXOR Personal Health Record to upload them. If the documents are already in digital format then you won't even have to scan them.

Although we do not recommend it because email is generally not secure (encrypted), your doctors can e-mail your health information to you. Or they can send it to you or to us by postal mail.

Best of all, your doctors can fax your health information to our secure toll-free fax number. Our system coverts it into a PDF. Then we send you an email that let's you know you have health information ready to upload into your PHR. All you have to do is to log into your LAXOR PHR, retrieve the information and upload it. This is the most secure method, because only you have access to the information.

4) What types of LAXOR memberships are available, and what does a LAXOR membership cost?
The LAXOR Personal Health Record is a subscription service billed annually. We accept, VISA and MasterCard.

Consumer (Individual Patient) Membership:
The consumer (individual patient) membership fee is $24 (in US dollars) a year for each person who signs up to use the LAXOR Personal Health Record.

Health Professionals:
Use of the LAXOR Personal Health Record is absolutely FREE to all licensed doctors, nurses and other health providers who register as Health Professionals. The registration process for health professionals is different from the consumer (patient) registration process. Of course, health professionals can also be consumers. If a health professional chooses to use our PHR as a consumer (patient) then he or she will have to register separately.

With appropriate permissions granted from their patients, registered health professionals gain secure online access to the health information of their patients who are using the LAXOR PHR. Health professionals can also communicate online with their patients and each other using the secure online messaging function that is built in to the LAXOR Personal Health Record.

Corporate Sponsorships:
The LAXOR Personal Health Record is a wonderful value added benefit to offer your employees, your customers and/or your members, either under the LAXOR brand, or privately labeled for your company. Opportunities exist for revenue enhancement, cost reduction and just as importantly, improving their health. Please contact us for more information on how your company can offer the LAXOR PHR.

5) How can LAXOR afford to offer its service for only $24.00 a year for each person who uses it?
We keep our rates low in part by billing you or your sponsor annually. And our technology is extremely efficient. This means that the costs of providing the LAXOR PHR can be kept very reasonable. In addition, our online help is excellent. So between the LAXOR Personal Health Record itself and our online help, we know you will keep on renewing your membership every year. High renewal rates also help us keep our price down.

6) How do I let my doctors and other health professionals access my health information?
After you join LAXOR you will set the Access Rights to your online Personal Health Record. After logging in on you select "My Access Rights" from the PERSONAL MENU. Then you can click on the checkmark next to "Allow Emergency Access to Your Records". Now your doctors and other health professionals will be able to gain access to your online PHR. If you disable this feature then they will not be able to gain access to this information.

Any health care professional who wants to access your record must select a valid reason for doing so. They are warned that misuse or access under false pretenses could lead to civil prosecution and criminal charges. Although LAXOR will request legal action against anyone who knowingly gains access under false pretenses, you need to be aware that if you grant access to your health information, there may be occasions when this will happen. If you have any concerns at all then the best thing to do is to disable emergency access.

7) What about Privacy & Security?
We are all concerned about the privacy and security of online information. Not only do we abide by HIPAA, but we also recognize that identity theft has become a very big problem. At LAXOR we do not share any information that can identify you with any 3rd party. Period. Your information is only made available to health professionals if you yourself allow access to it (see Question 6), or if required by duly authorized law officials in the performance of their duties.

Although we do have to collect some information from you, one important piece of data that many identity thieves use is your Social Security Number. We do not ask you for it so it does not reside anywhere in our database.

And speaking of our database. It is encrypted and is never carried around on any of our employees' laptops. This means that your health information is secure. It also means that you won't end reading in the news that your health information was sitting on a LAXOR employee's laptop, which was then stolen from that person's car.

Lastly, we use SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to encrypt all transmission of data to and from your LAXOR Personal Health Record. We also use encryption to process your credit card. This means that it can not be easily read while going through the Internet. Click here for more information on LAXOR's Privacy and Security policies and procedures. And for related information check out our Terms of Use.

8) What does the name LAXOR mean?
LAXOR® is derived from the Latin words that mean "wide boundary". Because the LAXOR Personal Health Record provides a single place for the storage of all your health information no matter where or when it was created, the establishment of groups of people who share a common interest in your health information, and communication with people in your groups, it creates a wide boundary around your health information needs. That's why our motto is: Your Information Your Life™.
